The TYPE- II Tatsuo Miyajima project is a project that A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE undertook with contemporary artist, Tatsuo Miyajima, who is known for his works using digital numbers as a motif. At this exhibition, the KURA will showcase a jacket that reconstructs the patterns of Miyajima’s digital numbers from the second installment of this project.

This jacket was realized by applying an advanced hand-printing technique used by Kyoto artisans. First, the parts of the garment and patterns of digital numbers are designed within a piece of cloth. Then, thirty two layers of screen printing is done on the bonding material by pasting the different materials together. This unique process is implemented to give the pattern texture and to fade the colour.

The KURA exhibition will feature a piece of cloth that has all of the design information of the jacket packed into it. It will also present a photo exhibition that follows the production process from printing, processing, washing, to finishing, to introduce the background to clothes-making and show how artisans are involved in making each and every garment.

Time and eternity are themes throughout all of Miyajima’s works. Please feel the vivid potential of A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE which resonates with such themes.
