“FLUIDITY LOOP”
The KURA gallery of ISSEY MIYAKE KYOTO presents KURA Exhibition “FLUIDITY LOOP.”
Designed for ISSEY MIYAKE SPRING SUMMER 2022 collection “A Voyage in Descent”, “FLUIDITY LOOP” is a new series featuring garments of fluid motion, made from a fabric knitted in a spiral form.
Inspired by the collection theme, a story about diving into the sea and traveling into the depths, FLUIDITY LOOP expresses a sense of fluidity and dynamism in the form of organic curves that envelop the body, as if one’s movement relies entirely on and flows with the currents. Made possible by a technique called plating that knits two colours of yarn at the same time, the ribbed texture looks like ripples on the water, showing one colour on the surface and revealing the other underneath as it moves and expands.
This exhibition looks at the knit structure that lends itself to the sculptural form of FLUIDITY LOOP. By presenting an installation of fabrics and videos, it brings forward the playfulness of this knit series—an integration of the technique that knits the fabric in a spiral form, the materiality of the yarn, and a design that requires minimal sewing.
