KURA Exhibition “BATIK”

Makiko Minagawa, who has worked as the textile director of ISSEY MIYAKE, has been working on the development of unique materials for HaaT, a brand based on the concept of being inspired by textiles.
In this exhibition, we will introduce HaaT 's new work “REAL BATIK” created in the 2019 Spring/Summer season.
“BATIK” is a so-called “batik” cloth that is resist-dyed and dyed with wax.The lightly glossy cupra twill fabric has a cracked dot pattern that is unique to batik, giving it a unique texture.
A high level of skill is required to apply this technique to thin cupra twill.Kyoto craftsmen meticulously finish the product through repeated trial and error, such as determining the optimum temperature and thickness of wax, applying wax using a unique procedure using rollers and plates, and applying wax to the details with a brush. bottom.
Along with viewing “REAL BATIK” through a special exhibition, a slide show will introduce the skilled hands of the craftsmen.
