“GEOMETRIC MATELASSE KNIT”
The KURA gallery of ISSEY MIYAKE KYOTO presents KURA Exhibition “GEOMETRIC MATELASSE KNIT.”
HaaT introduces GEOMETRIC MATELASSE KNIT, a series of textiles created using yarns of various thicknesses.
A knitting factory located in Gosen City in the Niigata Prefecture, an area known for being skilled at using yarn and processing textures, produces these products that are precisely knitted and beautifully assembled. In order to express the geometric patterns with a jacquard knit, we created a three-dimensional effect with inlay knitting.
Inlay knitting is a technique in which a separate yarn is woven (inlaid) between the stitches of the base yarn. For this exhibition, Lily yarn, which has a chain structure that forms pockets of air when knitted, is used to give the fabric a soft texture. GEOMETRIC MATELASSE is characterized by its plump and irregularly textured pattern.
This exhibition will display molded knit parts for the sleeves, body, and ribs. Through the structure of the garment, which is the part that supports the entire fabric, you can experience the creation of a fabric supported by the skills of craftspeople. In addition, photos of the factory showing how the molded parts are joined together using a linking machine and sewing will be displayed in the main building.
The hand crafted linking, which is done when every stitch is picked for a luxurious and breathtaking finish, is the skill of seasoned artisans. Experience the essence of textile-focused HaaT, while feeling the rich expressions of the textured patterns.
