“REmeTEX”
The KURA gallery of ISSEY MIYAKE KYOTO presents KURA Exhibition “REmeTEX.”
me ISSEY MIYAKE is a brand dedicated to making life comfortable and enjoyable. This exhibition introduces “REmeTEX,” a new way of making things environmentally-friendly with a focus on the future.
REmeTEX is a series that recycles reclaimed fabric, collected through the me ISSEY MIYAKE garment-making process, and transforms them into new clothes. Using a technique for recycling fibres known as “hanmou”, the scraps are converted back into a raw fibre state, and are then re-spun into yarn and made into woven fabric. The new textile features various colours mixed in, giving depth to the hues born from the reclaimed fabrics.
This exhibition presents video footage introducing the manufacturing process in the factory and displays materials selected from the clothes-making process, such as pieces of reclaimed fabric from the one of the brand’s representative series, FINE KNIT PLEATS. On the second floor of the main building, visitors can also see actual “REmeTEX” products from the collection.
Come and experience this initiative for yourself.
