KURA Exhibition “Hand and Tech”

In Kyoto, the technique of dyeing with natural dyes such as plants has been cultivated since ancient times.
ISSEY MIYAKE makes clothes together with craftsmen in Kyoto who have inherited the techniques of vegetable dyeing and continue to develop them.
This exhibition introduces the clothes created through this collaboration.
“A-POC (A-POC (*)” technology, and furthermore, “Steam Stretch (*)”, the textile is steam-shrunk to create a shape.
Raw materials for natural dyes such as pomegranate, catechu, and rack dye, threads dyed with these materials, and weaving blueprints will be on display, allowing visitors to see the process from dyeing the threads to finishing the clothes.
Combining “hand” work and “TEC” = technology to create something that has never existed before. I hope that you will feel the fun of making things like that.

*A-POC (A Piece Of Cloth): Technology to create clothes by giving instructions to each thread by computer control and integral molding.

*Steam Stretch: A technique that steams and shrinks a fabric with creases woven in it in advance.
